Everything was OK Friday afternoon re the state of the pitch at Roots Hall at the moment, with www.southendunited.co.uk telling us then: 'The whole playing surface has been under frost covers this week and if the game was on today (Friday) it would be on. The situation is constantly being monitored but at this moment in time the match will be played as advertised.'
However, with temperatures of minus 4 overnight and below freezing forecast on the day in didn't take rocket science to work out the game was in danger, and sure enough a pitch inspection will now take place at 10am.
UPDATE: THE GAME HAS BEEN CALLED OFF DUE TO A FROZEN PITCH.
