Southend United v Wycombe Wanderers - MATCH OFF

Roots Hall: Match postponed

If the ground was like this we might have had a game, sadly it's a touch whiter

In the end the confidence showed by the club Friday was not to be realised, and the League Two game between Southend United and Wycombe Wanderers has been called off due to a frozen pitch.

To be honest you didn't have to work for the met office to take a decent guess, the overnight forecast was pretty poor.

www.southendunited.co.uk told us: 'Referee Andy Woolmer inspected the pitch at 10am and called the game off on the grounds of player safety. Altough frost covers, which covered the whole pitch, had been effective in some areas both the six yards boxes were frozen solid along with several other areas of the Roots Hall pitch.'

You could have added the fans safety as well lads, plus the fact the odd train has been cancelled and the roads a mess!

Anyway, as we all know temperatures have dropped dramatically in the last few hours so Wycombe joins Macclesfield in 'to be re-played' section, and while the Silkmen will be visiting in early January, we await a new date for the Chairboys.

The official site also adds that fans should hold onto their tickets purchased for the game as they will be valid for the rescheduled fixture.

As for the Barnet game at the Hall on Boxing Day Saturday and the next away match against Crewe on the Bank Holiday Tuesday, the outlook isn't brilliant and throughout January as well, so fingers crossed or we could be playing twice a week until the end of the season!

Apologies from all at S24 for the late posting of this news and the actual inspection taking place Saturday morning, sadly the admin side decided to take this inappropriate time to crash, probably every fansite editor in the country trying to log on at once with bad news!
