Lee Sawyer is a Shrimper again for the third time, until May for now
At last it's over, the official site has confirmed that the potentially exciting midfielder Lee Sawyer has signed for the Shrimpers for a third time on a free transfer.
The 21-year old left Blue Square South Woking by mutual consent Monday and is on a month-to-month deal until May with a one year option of a further contract, which we hope will be taken up if it all works out, as the faithful all hope.
Sawyer told www.southendunited.co.uk: "I've had a little look around again today and it doesn't seem one day ago that I was last here. Fot the past year all I have been focused on is getting back into the Football League so I can't stress how delighted I am to achieve that, especially with Southend, that means a lot" (More from the lad by clicking the first two links below.)
Lee's history has already been discussed on any of the previous articles below along with his playing record.
Of course, there have been plenty of concerns about the former Chelsea youth's disciplinary record which saw him ask to return to the Premiership club, who eventually let him go as well, after falling foul of Tilly's previous regime.
One of the reasons he was so upset was due to his belief that the present Lincoln boss kept playing him out of position out wide when players out of form, i.e. Macca, and we were losing a lot at the time, instead of being pselected in the middle.
Blues boss Paul Sturrock will have the job of keeping him happy with the lad himself showing his new found maturity wherever he's asked to perform.
Unless he's replacing Anthony Grant, oh no, not that again, see below, but no news is good news, and as EEB wrote, a midfield of Sawyer, Grant, Easton and Hall is a pretty tasty one and should give Bury a game on Friday evening.
As a wise man once said, we shall see!
