Peterborough United deny offer made for Kane Ferdinand: 'We are planning to keep an eye on him'

Kane Ferdinand
£300k for Kane; now that might help build a fourth side to FF

So reports have been flying down from wet and windy Scotland that teh Shrimpers have said no to a £300,000 offer from Championship side Peterborough United for teenage midfielder Kane Ferdinand.

The cousin of Premier League duo Rio and Anton Ferdinand has come through the youth ranks at the club and after making his debut  in January went on to make 22 appearances, scoring two goals.

And after rumours of links with Championship clubs West Ham and Ipswich Town, it seems recently promoted back to the second tier Peterborough United, with son of Alex Fergurson, young Darren, back as boss, now joining the queue.

I hope Fat Fry has nothing to do with this!

Anyway, Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony has said no money has been put on the table, they are just in for a touch of stalking.

He posted on twitter: "He is on list of talented youngsters for future and we made a call about him. [We] are planning to keep eye on him this season. I see Sky [Sports News] has us spending £300k on young lad... promising young player for future but we did not offer this for him."

Sort of makes sense to us at S24, Echoman Chris Phillips is having a bit of a love-in again with the powers that be at Roots Hall, one or two on a frebbie north of the border this weekend, not on the Trust 10k I hope, and it looks good to the faithful if it seems we turned down that amount of dosh, be honest £300,000, Shrimpers supremo Ron Martin would be foaming at the mouth at that amount, that buys a lot of onions!

We have no doubt he's being watched by several clubs actually, but at this stage of his career they would probably want to see him play a few more games at League Two level before taking the plunge, why have him sitting around in their reserves just to loan him out as quickly as he gets through the door.

No, it doesn't seem right, I'm sure if a cheque is put on the table Uncle Ron will bite their hand off, but for now the January transfer window seems a better bet.

The funny thing is that with some 'f***ing tank', (not our words!), from Crystal Palace called Alassane N'Diaye around in midfield along with Anthony Grant and Lee Sawyer, Kane might not even start in the first team anyway come August 6th and Hereford at home!

As for the player himself Kane will miss most of the Shrimpers pre-season as he's linked up with Republic of Ireland youth squad once again for the Under-19 European Championships taking place in Romania from July 20th with the Irish holding a training camp in Italy over the last week.

The Republic of Ireland kick-off their campaign on the opening day against Greece, before further group games against the Czech Republic and, a tough one here, hosts Romania.
