Kane Ferdinand: 'All the hard work you put in is to try and get in the Shrimpers first team'

Kane Ferdinand: Another fine young 'Irishman' found on the Shrimper books!

He can play right-back or centre-half, and could be just what Blues boss needs with five first team defenders out for Tuesday evenings match away to Cheltenham Town.

Kane Fedinand has been turning in some storming performances for Ricky Duncan's team and the odd game for Graham Coughlan in the reserves, but this would really be a step up, the Robins strike force are tough cookies.

Ferdinand told www.echo-news.co.uk: "All the hard work you put in is to try and get in to the first team so it would be great if I could play. After that my other dream is to go on and get a professional contract with the club and I will do all I can to try and make sure that happens."

If it happens, good luck Kane, but I get a feeling Luggy will try and start with Prosser and Coughlan in the middle and play Johnny Herd at left back, then again possibily not!

It's not within the realms of impossibilty that the young 'Irishman' will play in a 3-5-1-1 type formation as part of three centre backs with Louie Soares and Sofiene Zaaboub; heaven forbid but he's done crazier things!

Young Kane has already made appearances for the Republic of Ireland Under-18 side.

After being approached to be on standby, he in fact ended up turning out for the team a couple of times, the first coming on as a late substitute; the second, a full game at centre back, and a win!
