Kane Ferdinand still talking: 'Hopefully we can sort his contract out over the coming weeks'

Kane Ferdinand; the agents got involved, oh dear!

www.skysports.com have certainly been busy bees with Southend United news over the last few hours, picking up on the possible loan transfer of Matt Paterson to Stockport, and now, more alarmingly, that talented youngster Kane Ferdinand has got a number of clubs excited after he turned down a contract offer from the Shrimpers.

Under the terms of his present scholarship contract, if the Irish under-19 international fails to sign a professional contract by mid-March he can leave Roots Hall on a free.

And according to Murdoch's website Crystal Palace, Dougie of course knows him well and he's already nicked Stuart O'Keefe for bugger all, and Nottingham Forest are sniffing around.

League One clubs Brighton & Hove Albion are interested says the local rag, and S24 believes former Shrimpers legend Chrissy Powell wouldn't say no to Kane, a cousin of Manchester United's England captain Rio, joining him at Charlton Athletic.

Ferdinand's agent Matthew Southall said: "Kane has done very well over the last few weeks. He has shown his versatility and maturity and settled into the team well. There have been one or two enquiries which I expected but, at the moment, he is a Southend United player and is happy to be playing regularly and hopefully we can sort his contract out over the coming weeks."

Fun & games, this really is turning into a Black Wednesday for the faithful!

Following on from the madness of Bilel Mohsni and Blackpool nothing surprises us here at S24 Towers, but Kane's played half-a-dozen League Two games and was in Ricky Duncan's under-18's last season.

He is no doubt an excellent prospect and looks assured as both a holding midfield player or at centre-back, and would do at right-back if he got put there, but leaving Roots Hall at this stage of his career?

Good negotiation involved here, but in this very tough world the Shrimpers better find the dosh Kane's agent thinks he's worth or more than likely he will be off at some stage.
