Kane Ferdinand: No pro contract with the Shrimpers signed yet

Star youngster Kane Ferdinand had been holding out on putting pen to paper to sign his first pro deal as his present scholarship contract runs out at the end of March where he could sign for anyone.

Concerned Shrimpers believed that the 18-year-old midfielder would soon be off to a bigger club that could offer him to sort of wages Southend could only dream about at the moment, a recent S24 poll saw a majority believing he would be off before the end of the season.

However, after speaking to the Echo, there is hope that Kane will commit his immediate future to the club even agree to a two-year deal before the Hereford game at Roots Hall this evening.

Fedinand told www.echo-news.co.uk: "Talks are going well now and everything is close to being sorted out. I've been with Southend five years and I enjoy it here so I'm happy to stay. It's been great working my way in to the first team recently and hopefully I can go on to play many more games."

And so say all of us!
