Kane Ferdinand: No pro contract with the Shrimpers signed yet

Is anyone surprised?

The 19-year-old cousin of England skipper Rio has played just 11 games for Southend since his promotion through the youth ranks but in the crazy world of 21st-century football that is enough for Championship and wealthier League one clubs to sniff a killing, especially as the Blues are broke!

Then again, young Kane Ferdinand is rather good!

The midfielder, come defender, come bloody keeper if he wanted to be, has continued to impress the Shrimpers faithful with his cool and impressive displays in front of the back four that has brough him to the attention of many clubs and now throw in Burnley whose new boss Eddie Howe would have heard about him while at Bournemouth.

Join the queue mate, and bring you're cheque book, not that we're get much if he doesn't put pen to paper for us.

Ferdinand told www.echo-news.co.uk: "My agent is dealing with it all so I don't know what's happening at the moment. I'm enjoying it here though and, if the club make the right kind of offer, then I'll be happy to stay."

Out with an ankle injury at the moment Kane is expected to play against Northampton on Saturday while still on a youth team contract which would allow anyone to pile in after March, but hopefully his agent can be convinced to allow him to stay at Roots Hall and sign a two-and-a-half-year deal which would at least bring in some dosh in the summer if someone makes a decent offer.

However, at what cost in wages, something we just cannot afford with Sainsbury's picking up the cheque on a weekly basis and CEO Tara Brady admitting we are still paying players we had on loan last season! e're still in deep shit.

No, it's looking likely said agent, a young lad I'm told making his way in the business, he's learning fast, will let him go and play in some Championship club's reserves before being loaned out to Crawley Town as they walk their way to the 2012 League two title, possibily.
