Corr setback for Shrimpers & other tales from the training ground

Corr: Back injury

The not too surprising news that Big Baz remains out at the weekend

I should have known yesterday's headline was premature, especially as the last campaign's 21-goal man Barry Corr only has to get out of bed to pick up an injury, so returning to training for the first time this season was just asking for trouble!

After Blues boss Paul Sturrock promised the former Exeter hitman would 'play 10 to 15 minutes' against the struggling Pilgrims at Roots Hall Saturday afternoon, he goes and buggers something up again.

Echoman Chris Phillips tweeted: 'Barry Corr has suffered a reaction in training and won't be on bench against Plymouth on Saturday.'

Oh well, at least Liam Dickinson should be back from his three match suspension, and would immediately take the place of Bilel Mohsni who is suffering from his own one match ban.

Three goal joint scorer Liam is another of the Shrimpers former Pilgrim club, memebrship six at the last count, and he walked out on the Devon club citing 'personal reasons' after agreeing a contract.

Argyle interim chairman Peter Risdale said back in July: "Regrettably, we have agreed to a request from Liam to be released. We fully understand the reasons why. Liam has been a thorough professional in the short time he has been with us, and we hope that things will work out for him."

Still, a bit of history there, and the Salford born striker brought it up himself, telling Phillips during a break in training: 'Can't wait to play and prove to Plymouth I made right decision. Ankle feels good too after injection.'

More on that to come I'm sure.

Will he be joined by ex-Millwall scoring legend Neil Harris, suffering from his own injury problems?

He said he was evens to return for the Gills clash on Tuesday but failed to appear, and Neil sees no reason for those odds to change for the weekend.

Harris told www.echo-news.co.uk: "I only just missed out on being involved against Gillingham on Tuesday night and hope to be contention for this weekend's game with Plymouth Argyle. I would again describe my chances of playing as 50/50. But if I train tomorrow then I'm sure I'll be OK to get back on the pitch. It was only right at the end of my fitness test on Tuesday that I again suffered some discomfort with my groin but I'm hoping that rather than it being another setback it was just a message from my body to stop me from being stupid. I guess I was trying to rush back because I wanted to play but you have to be sensible about these things."

So the bench for Bomber at best, but there should be enough firepower to see off the one-point Pilgrims, (blimey, even Blair is hitting the bar, link below for match highlights), who are struggling to survive with many problems on and off the pitch.
