'All the paperwork signed ready for Barnet game tonight'; Luke tweets arrival from West Brom!

Luke Daniels: It's official, he's a Shrimper, and he's been given squad number 31!

Joining the ever growing band of players who tweet their arrival at a new club before waiting for the official announcement, West Brom shot stopper Luke Daniels has joined the Essex boys to help their promotion push, starting with Barnet away Tuesday evening.

He wrote: 'All the paperwork signed ready for the Southend vs Barnet game tonight.'

It's on a 28-day emergency loan which should cover five of the matches that Glenn Morris is down to miss with his thigh injury, but not Bristol Rovers at home on Saturday, November 26th, but it's certain to be re-applied for if the former Borient keeper is still not ready.

Present injury update on Glenn is that he will be out for up to six weeks that could mean he's back in the starting line-up for Saturday, December 10th at Cheltenham Town.

Luke took over as favourite to be signed when he tweeted yesterday: 'Finally arrived at the hotel in Southend. Thanks for all the messages can't wait to get started!!'

Would have been a wasted journey down from the West Midlands if we hadn't been able to agree a deal!

Yet to turn out for the Baggies first team, Daniels has packed his bags on several occasions to play for teams in the lower leagues since joining the West Midlands Premiership side in 2004 as a youth from Manchester United.

Overall he has made 101 career appearances, of which he didn't get beaten on 30 of them, nearlly a third, a decent record.

Luk'e greatest triumph was the season of 2008/09 when with Shrewsbury Town he went on to play 44 times, helping take the Shrews make the final of the League Two play-offs at Wembley but they were beaten by Gillingham 1-0.

And there was the clue, during that time he played with present Shrimpers centre-back and reserve team coach Graham Coughlan, who just might have had a word in Blues boss Paul Sturrock'sear.

Tough on tennage shot stopper Daniel Bentley who did noting wrong when he came out for Morris as substitute in the Gulls gutting, the goal he let in took a big deflection, but quite rightly we feel Luggy has gone for more experience as the Shrimpers continue on their quest to get out of the bottom tier.
