Ex-Captain Adam; back at the Borient from whence he came many years ago
Legendary former centre-back and skipper Adam Barrett was always going to find it hard back in the Championship with Dougie Freedman and the Eagles after his summer transfer from the Shrimpers, where, frankly, his saved wages allowed us to sign on half the present squad, not that we actaully paid him that often towards the end.
He's done well to make nine appearances in a side struggling at the wrong end of the table, so it was no surprise to hear he's gone out on loan, Huddersfield Town were favourites, Barrett and Clarkey back again, now that would have been fun, but he decided to stay closer to home and join the Orient for a month with the option of making it longer, bollocks!
O's boss Russell Slade told www.leytonorient.com at the time: "I'm really pleased that we've been able to sign Adam on loan. He decided to join us over Huddersfield, which is a real compliment to the football club. He'll bring experience to us, as well as a cultured left foot, at a time when we've been without Ben Chorley with injury."
In the middle of a good run Orient have won four successive games in a club record run of 14 games without defeat to make a late push for a play-off place in the third tier, and Barrett's been involved in the last two victories, some travelling Borient supporters who made the long trip to Hartlepool on a Tuesday evening, we've shared your pain, made Adam man-of-the-match in the 1-0 win!
Slade again: "Hartlepool made life much more difficult, but it's credit to us that we made the home side change. We want to play the nice football of course, but the other side of the game is doing the basics right - winning your tackles, headers and putting your neck on the line when it matters. We did all of those things."
You can see Adam now making those tackles, sweating blood for the cause, but that blood is no longer blue, but the red of Orient!
If things weren't tough enough as it is.
