Adam Barrett: Clutching a trophy in happier times for players and fans
So another name banded around for the last few weeks with Simon, Macca, Mildy and the Moose as all looking to apply their trade at a higher level, or just simply get paid for it, was Captain Adam, the man wearing the armband during the good times when all seemed possible with Tilly and Brush.
Sadly, Uncle Ron had a dream that has turned into a nightmare, and at the age of 30 centre back Adam Barrett, after a much-publised row with the Shrimpers supremo, wants to miss out on the pleasures of Accrington away on a Tuesday night in November after escaping the basement division five seasons ago.
Who can blame him? It would save a few bob on wages, but there's not many of the SUFC faithful who would not wish Adam the best of luck in securing a new club if that's what he truly wants.
The reason behind this article by the way is the following addition to the PFA Transfer List: http://www.givemefootball.com/pfa-transfer-list
Adam scoring for the Gasmen six years ago, not much more hair!
The former Belfairs boy is certainly no rat leaving a sinking ship but let's face it, would you board the S.S. Shrimper at the moment? Give me a ticket to the Titanic anytime, at least that left the dock!
Where this would leave Tilly God only knows, and we wish him well, even if they all stay early into next season the training pitch come July will not be the happiest of places; and if any go, who the hell will Tills get to replace them, when he's allowed to?
I hear that Kane Ferdinand looked good in central defence for the Irish under-18's, and Johnny for skipper may be on as he could be the veteran of the team that plays the opening league game on August 7!
