Dickinson: Netted Southend's second

Liam Dickinson: Making sure again he's one of the top two from seven

Let's face it, when you return to the top of the your league you expect the odd player to be given the nod, especially in the week's best team chosen by the Press Association, and after last Saturday, and a 5-2 win away to Northampton, we have two!

In fact, having missed the previous week, (sorry, still suffering!), and our 3-0 win over Port Vale, two of that side are selected again, along with Mark Phillips from that particular set of matches.

Against the Cobblers, Ryan Hall crosses were headed in by Bilel Mohsni, and Liam Dickinson grabbed a brace including a well taken spot-kick.

After nearly two months of non-selection due to our mini-rut of poor form, luckily only two defeats in the league, we seem to be back in the frame again, and hopefully now we'll see plenty of Shrimpers in this particular side from now until May, especially the odd defender again!

The running total for the campaign is: Ryan Hall (five), Liam Dickinson (four), Peter Gilbert (three), Sean Clohessy (twice), Mark Phillips (twice), Michael Timlin (once).

Got to give it to Liam, with all these strikers joining, he's making it very hard for Blues boss Paul Sturrock not to place him in his first eleven, and would be expected to start against Shrewsbury Saturday, but with Jack Sampson or Elliot Benyon as his partner?

Team of the Week (after Jan. 14): Robert Olejnik (Torquay United), Dan Woodards (Bristol Rovers), Michael Townsend (Hereford United), Aaron Downes (Bristol Rovers), Matt Tootle (Crewe Alexandra), Ryan Hall (Southend United), Matt Ritchie (Swindon Town), Mark Hughes (Barnet), Mark Marshall (Barnet), Liam Dickinson (Southend United), Ricky Holmes (Swindon Town).

Team of the Week (after Jan. 7): Ian Dunbavin (Accrington Stanley), Damlan Batt (Oxford United), Michael Duberry (Oxford United), Mark Phillips (Southend United), Kevin McIntyre (Accrington Stanley), Ryan Hall (Southend United), John Johnson (Northampton Town), Peter Leven (Oxford United), Kevin Ellison (Morecambe), Liam Dickinson (Southend United), Akwasl Asante (Northampton Town).
