Daniel Bentley; could miss cup game with a bad back!
As S24 reported last Monday, www.southendunited-mad.co.uk, West Brom have refused permission for loanee keeper Luke Daniels, the hero of the weekend, to take part in next Saturday's FA Cup First round tie at Preston North End.
This looked to have handed reserve shot stopper Daniel Bentley a real chance to strutt his stuff at on of the most famous grounds in the country as Shrimpers No.1 Glenn Morris remains out with a thigh injury.
Howver, teenager Bentley was no where to be seen during Southend's 2-1 win over Oxford at Roots Hall last weekend as he picked up a late back problem that saw the Blues go in to the game without a goalkeeper on the subs bench!
So will he be fit for the cup clash? Luggy hopes he will or it could mean another dip into the loan market, Rhts Evans is still without a club I'm told and has been training with Swindon, well for one game!
Anyway, Blues boss Paul Sturrock told www.echo-news.co.uk: “The goalkeeping situation is a problem at this moment in time for the Preston game. The injuries are improving though so hopefully things will be OK by the time we get to the weekend.”
Saint Luke is OK for the JPT Southern Section quarter-final at the Kassam Stadium, yes Oxford again, Tuesday evening.
