Corr to miss start of season for Shrimpers

Corr: Found the back of the net

Barry Corr: Working hard on Twitter but sadly not on a footy pitch

You always wonder how seriousness the inury is with big Barry Corr who we were lucky to get so many games last season where he ended up top scorer with 21 goals.

Well, the present knee problem that has seen him miss both the opening pre-season victories is enough to make him miss the rest of the schedule as well as the opening games of the 2011/12 campaign.

Shrimpers physiotherapist Ben Clarkson told www.echo-news.co.uk: “Barryis touch and go for the start of the season and it’s more likely he will start to be introduced into games at the end of August. It’s a very unusual injury and one which is more common in speed-skaters or ice-skaters, but it all stems from the problems he’s previously had with his back. That also limits what strengthening exercises we can do to improve the injury and we have to be careful. Barry had a similar injury on his left knee when he was at Leeds and ended up being out for quite a while, so that’s something we obviously want to avoid. He had an injection on the injury at the start of the summer and we went to see the specialist again this week, who is pleased with the progress Barry’s making so hopefully things can continue to go well.”

So no Scottish tour for Big Baz and certainly the opening games against Hereford, Leyton Orient in the JPT and more than likely Accrington Stanley away on August 13th.

Crawley Town away the following Tuesday or Burton Albion at home on August 20th may also be too early for last season's Shrimpers top scorer, we will wait and see.

More on fellow forward Blair Sturrock in a seperate article, but there is a possibility of an operation to deal with his knee injury that could see him out longer than Barry!

Better get that cheque book out for last night's hat-trick hero Rohan Ricketts or Kyle Asante may get an early promotion to partner Neil Harris on the sixth of August or Blues boss Paul Sturrock going for a two wideboy policy with Ryan Hall and Jemal Johnson on the wings and Harris on his own in the middle.

If son of Luggy is fit, and that looks doubtful, it would probably be just Bomber and Blair to start with only Ryan wide.

Always a struggle for Baz: www.southendunited-mad.co.uk
