Clohessy: 'We know we must improve our defensive record to beat Gillingham'

Clohessy: New deal
Clohessy: 'We were terrible if we’re being honest'

Now it doesn't take a rocket scientist, and Shrimpers right-back Sean Clohessy is many things but not that, to work out that the Essex boys played pretty poorly at the County Ground Saturday afternoon on their way to a 2-0 defeat against Swindon Town.

Clohessy told www.echo-news.co.uk: “It was just a really bad performance from us and we were terrible if we’re being honest about it. There isn’t really much else to say but we know we can play much better and we had to if we were to get something out of the game. We wanted to come out stronger after half-time but they got a goal straight away and we just never got going again. Northampton showed it was possible to come back from 2-0 down against us last weekend but we just couldn’t find that sparkle you need and it was a disappointing day.”

Lucklit, the players will not have to wait long to get it out of their system as Gillingham await in another league Two clash under the lights at Roots Hall on Tuesday.

Clohessy said: “It’s a massive match because we need a win now. They’re not far away from us so there should be a decent crowd and atmosphere. We will be fired up to do well and react in the right way to this defeat. We know we must improve our defensive record for that to happen and the whole team is working hard to do that.”

And let's hope we reap the rewards of that hard work in a couple of days.
