Brady: 'Why should we pay someone to negotiate against us?'
It was good news to the faithfull's ears that the Shrimpers have reduced the fees they have passed over to agents over the period October 1 2010 to September 30 2011 from £27,048 from £50,400 the same time frame 2009/10.
Southend United's chief executive Tara Brady has been working hard to keep agents costs to a minimum, quite right too, and, as S24 wrote yesterday, believes that figure will continue to be reduced, while not affecting the club in bringing decent talent to south-east Essex.
Brady told www.echo-news.co.uk: “Why should we pay someone to negotiate against us?. If someone is acting on our behalf then we pay them accordingly but if they’re acting for the player then it’s the player who pays them. We haven’t lost out on any deals because of this and our figures for next season will be even lower than the £27,000. However, it’s not a hard rule and if there comes a time when our hands are tied and we have to pay an agent to make sure we get a player then we will.”
