Boothroyd: 'Paul Sturrock knows nothing gets won in January'

Boothroyd: Delighted after win

Boothroyd: 'Southend will put out a team that is very difficult to beat'

They've only played two games in the new year, but both were away and they got a terrific 1--1 draw at Shrewsbury and a first victory in 14 games at Morecambe 2-1, so four points and yet to lose, and when your facing one of the promotion favourites and your second from bottom, you will take anything that's going..

It's obvious ex-head farmer Aidy Boothroyd has made them harder to beat and we all know his style, Blues boss Paul Sturrock might have his critics but his brand of football is positively Barcelona like compared to how the former Watford boss likes to see the game played.

Chris Barker and Mark Phillips better be ready for an ariel assault, and keeper Glenn Morris better have that finger well strapped up!

However, even signing a team of strikers in the last week will not take away that this will be a hard game, Swindon only got their winner close to stoppage time, and Aidy will make sure his side are up for it.

He told www.northamptonchron.co.uk: “It should be a decent game and it’s one I’m really looking forward to. Southend will put out a team that is very difficult to beat but it’s a game both teams will think they can win. Paul Sturrock has been there and done it and he won’t be getting too excited about being in the top three now because nothing gets won in January."

True enough, and he's happy enough with his own team but hopes the defence can be a touch less generous!

Boothroyd said: “Our last four performances have been pleasing, we’ve been in every game and we’ve started to concede less goals. We still haven’t kept a clean sheet but that’s something I’m very much looking to do in the next few games.”

I'm sure he is, but he must be looking at envy at Luggy bringing in five players already two weeks into the January transfer window, that's half a team, though one was already here, and the other four are forwards!

Boothroyd told www.ntfc.co.uk: "It's clear that we still need to kove some players out but it's nice and refreshing to have a Chairman who says, 'tell me whay you need and we will go out and get it.' That's a nice place for us to be in but what we've got to do while that is going on is make sure we are still picking up results."
