Tilson: Failed to beat the drop

Tilson: 'It was hard to motivate the players when they kept on not getting paid'

Former Shrimpers boss Steve Tilson is looking for work once again after being sacked by Lincoln City in what his ex-Chairman called a 'catastrophic' time at Sincil Bank.

However, it's not been him off the beautiful game.

Tilson told www.echo-news.co.uk: “Football is in my blood and of course I can’t wait to be involved with the game again. It’s been a tough year for Paul Brush and myself but it hasn’t put me off and I’m now waiting for another opportunity in the game. It doesn’t matter if that’s local or further away either because you have to be willing to go wherever there is work.”

Tilson was at Roots Hall for seven years before Uncle Ron did the dirty deed in the summer of 2010, but he joined Lincoln three months later in a blaze of positive publicity to sadly, for him and Brushy, take them out of the Football League and near the relegation zone of the Blue Square Premier the following campaign, even so, he remains confident he can do the business as manager at another club.

Tilson said: “I still believe in my own ability. I think the last year at Southend was down to what happened off the pitch and it was hard to motivate the players when they kept on not getting paid. I really don’t think there was anything I could’ve done about that. I can’t really say much else but I do still have faith in my ability and need to make sure my next club is one with ambition.”

Best of luck mate, you're going to need it.

Meanwhile, Tilly will now have more time on his hands to spend with Sport and Star Autographs, a memorabilia shop based in Basildon’s Eastgate Shopping Centre, who he's been involved with for the last six years.

Tilly explains: “I’m going to be taking a really pro-active role in the business. I will be looking to get back in to football but I’ll be playing much more of hands on role with the shop which is something different and I’m looking forward to doing. I will be helping to stage nights for charities with auctions and it would be great if people could get in touch if they’re planning to stage this type of event. I would also love to do some football coaching, either youngsters or any older teams too, because that’s what I love to do.”

And I'm sure it won't take long for someone to be in touch with the Shrimpers legend.
