Tilly & Brush sacked by Lincoln City

Tilson: Failed to beat the drop

Steve Tilson: Always a Shrimpers legend whatever happened at Sincil Bank

In a short but sweet statement from Blue Square Premier side Lincoln City, they told us what has seemed inevitable since Tilly and Brush, with whom we once had such trust, took them out of the Football League last May after a horrendous run of results that have continued into this present campaign.

Last weekend's 4-0 defeat at Tamworth was certainly enough for the Imps faithful, followed now by the board, and the speculation that the former Shrimpers management team that took us to so much glory were too expensive to be sacked due to the length of their contracts, proved not to be true.

www.redimps.co.uk said: 'Lincoln City have today terminated the contracts of manager Steve Tilson and assistant manager Paul Brush. Head of youth Grant Brown will take over first team duties until such time as the managerial position is filled. The club will be making no further comment at this stage.'

With only three wins this season, in fact three wins period since they beat Southend United 2-1 in that emotional afternoon last March, this is hardly a shock with Lincoln perilously close to the fifth tier relegation zone, action had to be taken.

But why did it go so wrong?

That's a question for another day, for now there should be no sense of triumph from anyone connected with Southend, some quotes on various message boards have been very poor, people have short memories, and we just wish Steve Tilson and Paul Brush the best of luck in the future, after this debacle in Lincolnshire they will need it.

Another former Shrimper boss Steve Thompson along with Mick Hartford were pipped to the job last time around by Tilly's storming interview, and it seems they are up for it this time around as well, at least until the end of the season.
