Mildy: 'I will always look back on my time with Southend with a smile on my face'
Not sure God can help us now Steve, but thanks!
So ex-Shrimpers shot stopper Steve Mildenhall has become a Lion on a years deal, this after his contract was cancelled by mutual consent so we could save on the wage bill and Big Steve didn't fancy Cheltenham on a cold November evening.
However, at least he's done the decent thing and spoken about his sadness on leaving the Shrimpers, especially on the low of being relegated.
Mildy told www.echo-news.co.uk: "I hope to God that Southend can sort themselves out and be pushing for promotion. It's been well documented that it was a hard year for us last season, but I really did enjoy my time at Southend."
He confirms he'll remain living in south east Essex where Steve has settled with his wife.
The good bit was his final words about the fans and how he took the song about him, it always sounded like he used to be shit to me in the West Stand, in good humour, after taking over from little Darryl Flahaven.
Mildy concluded: "Obviously the Chelsea cup game was a real high, but I think what gave me most satisfaction was the way the fans got behind me after originally certain sections were giving me some grief when I first joined. I was aware I was coming to a club where the previous goalkeeper had a real affiliation with the fans, but in the end they made up a comical chant about me which made me chuckle. I will always laugh about that and will look back on my time with Southend with a smile on my face."
Wish we could laugh with you Steve!
