Steve Mildenhall; now a Lion
Southend United have cancelled the contract of goalkeeper Steve Mildenhall by mutual consent and he's agreed to join newly promoted Championship side Millwall on a one-year contract.
As with ex-Captain Adam, Macca and player-of-the-year Simon Francis, the Shrimpers were finding all their current salaries prohibitive for a club settling down for life in the basement division and owing a lot of people a lot of money!
It has been rumoured for a while that Millwall were interested but it's difficult to see Big Steve being anything other than warming the subs bench and playing in the Carling Cup as regular Lions No.1 David Forde has not missed a league game since making his debut in 2008.
Forde kept 21 clean sheets last term, just missing out for the Golden Glove award, as he did again the season before when it was 19 goal free games.
Even so, and we hope this is the last time for a while, (please stay Moose), the best of luck Steve, who after a dodgy start won the majority of the Blues faithful over, and we'll always have that save in injury time of the first Cup game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge that confirmed the replay.
Now we just have to wonder who Paul Sturrock will get in, when and if he can?
Let's take a look at shot stoppers at clubs he's managed, anyone free?!
Little Darryl may not have played for Sturrock but he most certainly is, free that is!
This Daniel Bentley, any good for the under-18's?!
