Paul Sturrock: The S24 readers choice as best manager of the last three decades
A good turn out for this perticular poll which shows the passion involved in the names mentioned, which probably shows why fat Fry only got 5, though my personal vote Dave Webb was realtively low in the end for what he did while in charge.
Probably says more about the age group of the S24 readership, a whole generation is now supporting the Shrimpers who only know Paul Samsome, Brett Angell, that bloke who put the ball in the Bury net, through their dads, well, older brother!
So present manager Paul Sturrock wins it, by a single vote, when he hasn't actually won anything yet, blimey, even Dave Smith,
www.davesmithsoccer.co.uk/dave.html, brought home the old Fourth Division title back in 1981, though not with a side that was easy on the eye, sound familiar!
Emotions will always remain high where Tilly and Brush are concerned, they did oversee two relegations as well as all the good times, but what good times they were, and that's why people clicked on his name, whatever happens to him in the future, that particular squad and what it brought to Roots Hall will be talked about for a lot longer than present Shrimpers supremo Ron Martin.
However, glad to see Colin Murphy and Dick Bate read the site, as none of the above pulled a couple of votes, maybe it was Rob Newman or Steve Wignall, then again, Colin did bring Stan Collymore to south-east Essex, and for that he deserves anyone's support!
Who do you think was the best Shrimpers boss of the last thirty years?
