Drewe Broughton; he did get 'that' goal
Once described, I believe in jest, as a 'complete, all round footballing genius', tall striker Drew Broughton, at the grand old age of 32, has signed for his 18th team, and that's not counting the club's he's been at twice, and once again on loan, an emergency one at that.
And the manager who has set him on his way to promotion-chasing Conference Premier side AFC Wimbledon, is the man in charge of his 9th and 17th, one Steve Tilson.
Former boss Tilly and his assistant Paul Brush have turned the Imps around to a team that looked on it's way to the Conference to one that when we play them on Saturday, March 12th, could be over points for a play-off place, and not surprisingly he's decided that that Drewy has no place in his furture plans.
Tilly has got history with Drewy, who was on a one-year contract at Sincil Bank that ends in June 2011, taking a year last time around at Roots Hall, so at least he had a head start when he became an Imp last October, as this time it's only taken him four months!
He was shipped off to Rushden & Diamonds on the way to Wycombe, R&D again, oh the list is too long, read the file below, if you can get to the end.
Somehow though remaining a cult figure amongst quite a few of the Roots Hall faithful for putting in so much effort for so little reward, and possibily for scoring against the Farmers in the second leg of the LDV semi-final of 2004, sending the Shrimpers to their first national Final in the club's then 98 year history.
Dons boss Terry Brown told www.surreyherald.co.uk: "I am delighted to have signed Drewe, who I've been aware of for some time. He offers us different options - he is a big strong lad who wins headers in and around the box, creating chances for others, and he holds the ball up very well. In effect, he offers us a Plan B. I expect he will take some of the pressure off Danny [Kedwell] who has led the line single-handedly and taken a bit of a pummelling from time to time. I am sure they will play well together."
Good luck at the Dons Drewy!
We're not the only people who love him!
