FA Cup: Road to Wembley continues live on tele

Southend United will play Preston North End at their famous Deepdale ground in the F.A. Cup First Round to be played on Saturday, Novenber 12th (kick-off 15.00), but not surprisingly it's hasn't been choosen as one of the three ties the Football Association have announced as one of the three FA Cup, in association with fizzy yank crap Budweiser, first round ties that will feature live on ITV and ESPN in a couple of weeks.

Ex-Shrimpers left back and Rushden & Diamonds manager Justin Edinburgh's Blue Square Premier side Newport County will host League Two rivals Shrewsbury Town at the Newport Stadium on ESPN to kick-off proceedings on Saturday, November 12th.

League One leaders Charlton Athletic, managed by our very own legend and another former left back in Chrissy Powell, will be on ITV1, the next day taking on Conference North's FC Halifax Town at the Shay, blimey, was there many years ago, a horrible goalless draw I recall.

Subscription channel ESPN will complete the live TV double header on the Sunday when Sheffield Wednesday, and I'm sure Blues boss Paul Sturrock along with former players Graham Coughlan, Peter Gilbert and Barry Corr will be tuning in, take on another Southend fourth tier rival in Morecambe at the Globe Arena.

All six clubs receive The FA live broadcast fee of £67,500, while the winners net £18,500 from The FA Cup prize fund.

With that sort of dosh around, and if we get through which will be tough enough, CEO Tara Brady will be eyeing up a decent non-league club away as well!
