Vernon: Staying with Aberdeen

Vernon: Staying with Aberdeen

Scott Vernon is the Dons' top scorer this season with nine goals, joined the Scottish Premier League side from Colchester in summer 2010 and has previously played for Blackpool, Oldham, Gillingham, Northampton and, of course, Southend United, in one of Tilly's last desperate signings to keep us up that season.

It was confirmed on Wednesday that Vernon had signed a contract extension to keep him at Aberdeen until mid-2014.

He told www.dailyrecord.co.uk/:"I am delighted with what has happened. I have said all along I wanted to stay. I had a couple of options but nothing I regarded that was as good as Aberdeen. I wasn't aware of any other interest from clubs in Scotland. I am happy with how I am playing and want to do well for the team because it needs all the help it can get."

While Vernon and Andrew Considine have both pledged their futures to the club, several other Dons players are reaching the end of their contracts.

Manager Craig Brown hopes the players that are part of his future plans will sign new deals sooner rather than later.

He said: "The only issue will be money. I don't think any of them are in a hurry to leave Aberdeen but they might find they can get more elsewhere. At Aberdeen we sometimes cannot pay a player what they might be worth - it is more about what we can afford. All we can do is make them the maximum offer we cant. It is not just Kari Arnason and Isaac Osbourne. There are others in similar situations and we have still to get to players such as Jamie Langfield, Darren Mackie, Rory McArdle and Youl Mawene. Eventually we will put a time limit on their responses. We do not want to get into the situation when we are left with no time to bring in replacements."

Ahh, centre back Rory McArdle, an possible old flame of Blues boss Paul Sturrock, will he attempt to make a move?

Fair enough to say we have enough strikers now!
