The FA Youth Cup Fifth Round sponsored by E.ON

Liverpool Under-18's v Southend United Under-18's

The Shrimpers Under-18's take on Academy side Liverpool;s Under-18 team in the fifth round of the F.A. Youth Cup Monday, February 14th, at Anfield, kick-off 19.00.

This is the reward for the Ricky Duncan managed squad after the terrific feat of beating another Academy side Derby County 3-1 in the fourth round at Anfield Wednesday evening. (Report below).

Any team news will be updated here when we get it but this is the side that finished the victory over the young Rams.

Ricky Duncan told www.southendunited.co.uk: "We're looking forward to testing ourselves against one of the very top teams in the country. It's a fantastic opportunity for the players and will be a very proud moment for everyone connected with the football club. For me it won't be as proud as seeing one of the boys progress and go in to the first team, like Kane Ferdinand has in recent weeks. But it will be an exciting evening and I just hope the team can go out do themselves justice because I don't think we did that when we got this far a few years ago and were beaten by Carlisle."

Of course, Ricky is well aware of how strong the team is his Shrimpers side are going to face.

Duncan continued: "Liverpool are a very good side with some of the best young boys in the country. We've watched DVDs of their games and have had a good relationship with them over the last couple of years after we sold Michael Ngoo to them. He might not be fit to play against us but either way it will be a very hard test for us, but one we can't wait to face."

Possible Southend United: Bentley, Furlonge, Nesbitt, Stevens, Baucutt, Abdellah (Della-Verde), Woodyard, Ofori-Acheampong, Smith, Okai.

Subs not used: Auger, Chambers, Lyland, McKay.

Tickets for the fixture will of course be sold on the day, and are priced at £4 for Adults, and £1 for concessions.

Blues FA Youth Cup recent history

After a great run three seasons ago that took the Shrimpers Trust sponsored Southend United youth team to the verge of the sixth round and a tie away to Manchester United, the last two competitions before the present one have seen them exit in the First Round proper.

2008/09 saw them lose to Brentford on penalties, and they certainly got revenge for that result this time around, while last season they were unlucky to be drawn away to eventual Youth Alliance Champions Millwall, where they lost 3-1.

However, they started with a good win in the First Round over the Hatters and you can read the report here:

And followed it up by sinking the Bees in the next stage:
