The FA Youth Cup Fourth Round sponsored by E.ON

Derby County Under-18's 1 Southend United Under-18's 3

Academy side Derby actually went into the break one up against Ricky Duncan's team when Callum Bell's header from close range gave them the lead on 34 minutes.

The second half though was dominated by the Shrimpers as they turned the game on it's head.

Jamie Stephens drew them level after the break, a low cross from Hitcham Abdellah was smashed home by the young Blues skipper on the hour.

A good save from Rams keeper Ross Etheridge from George Smith was only halting the inevitable and on 73 minutes a great ball into the danger area by Teddy Nesbitt was touched home, yes, yet another goal, by Duane Ofori-Acheampong.

The tie was secured in stoppage time as Southend broke out of their own box and Smith this time made no mistake to cue wild Shrimpers scenes of joy, joined by a small number of fans who had made the trip on a Trust coach.

Bring on a very special evening on Merseyside.

Blues FA Youth Cup recent history

After a great run three seasons ago that took the Shrimpers Trust sponsored Southend United youth team to the verge of the sixth round and a tie away to Manchester United, the last two competitions before the present one have seen them exit in the First Round proper.

2008/09 saw them lose to Brentford on penalties, and they certainly got revenge for that result this time around, while last season they were unlucky to be drawn away to eventual Youth Alliance Champions Millwall, where they lost 3-1.

However, they started with a good win in the First Round over the Hatters and you can read the report here:

And followed it up by sinking the Bees in the next stage:
