Simpson: Team must focus

Simpson: 'We're second in the league, joint with Southend' (No your not, we're top, by six clear goals!)

Former Shrimpers loanee midfielder Josh Simpson has urged his Crawley team-mates not to take their eye off the ball as they continue their fine start to life in League Two.

The creepies are currently second on goal difference behind leaders Southend after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Accrington on Saturday.

They face a trip to lowly Hereford next weekend, and stand-in skipper Simpson is staying focused on their ultimate target of a place in the play-offs at the end of the season.

Simpson told www.crawleytownfc.com: "Our aim is the play-offs. We're second in the league, joint with Southend, and we need to keep doing what we are doing, keep our heads down and take each game as it comes. There will be a lot of teams looking to beat us, week in, week out, but we need to keep doing what we do best."

Red Devils boss Steve Evans was his usual gracious self on the Football League show at the weekend, reminding us that there was only one team trying to play football against the Stanley and the referee could have added 26 minutes of stoppage time, not just six!

However, the fat boy had calmed down by the time he gave an interview to the club's official site.

Evans said: "We were all disappointed with large parts of our performance and we have let slip two big league points. I have said many times, every point is hard-earned in this league. But we have made a fantastic start to the season, there is no other word for it. Just take a look at the size and history of some of the clubs we are out-performing. We are aiming for that to continue but we know how tough that is."

The clocks will be a couple of weeks from going forward by the time United play Crawley again, this time at Roots Hall on Tuesday, March 6th, 2012; kick-off 19.45.

Meanwhile, to put the worries of winning and losing football matches in perspective, the sad news that Cheltenham Town's 16-year-old youth-team player Marcus Powell has died having been injured in an accident.

The youngster was involved in an incident involving a car while out jogging over the weekend and was unable to recover from his injuries.

A statement on www.ctfc.com: "The club's thoughts are with Marcus' family and friends at this difficult time."
