The Pool, still a couple of wins from guaranteed safety, have been charged by the Football Association for fielding an ineligible player in Monday's 2-0 home win against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Three points given to the Seagulls will see definite third tier football on the south coast next season, though they look as if they've done enough anyway.
Anyway, the naughty north east boys pla yedcentre half Gary Liddle, who should have started a two-match suspension after picking up his tenth booking of the season at Leyton Orient last weekend.
Liddle has also been charged and Hartlepool now face the possibility of a points deduction or, at the very least, a heavy fine.
Brighton managing director, Ken Brown, said: "We will leave it to the football authorities to deal with but it is interesting to note that, if it had been in the FA Cup, Hartlepool would have been thrown out of the competition."
Oh, and Stockport County are the first team to have the dreaded 'R' by their name.
So with Luton certainly in the Blue Square Premier play-offs, we could have Hatters v Hatters!
