Shrimpers struggle as Glovers grab point in grim goalless draw

This is going to be one of the shorter reports.

As expected Scott Malone played on the left wing replacing the suspended Moose, and to be fair he didn't have a bad game.

However, the loss of both Scannell to injury and Moussa to last weeks red card was always going to be a great loss to the width and attacking options available to the side, and so it proved to be.

Yeovil started well, keeping possession of the ball away from the Shrimpers who found it hard to get into the game, and both Shaun McDonald and Dean Bowditch shot over for the Somerset based team.

There was a glimer of a chance for Southend but after Scott Vernon did well to create some space he shot low and with little venom allowing Glovers keeper Alex McCarthy saved easily.

The second half came and was as unmemorable as the first.

Terrell Forbes and Gavin Tomlin for the Glovers continued the poor shooting seen in the game overall.

It was left to centre back Pat Baldwin of all people to get closest for the Essex boys, a half volley going, yes, wide, after another Johnny Herd long throw, which seemed Southend's only attacking weapon in a match that was finally brought to an end to the groans of the crowd, the ones still left in the ground that is.

So on to Kent and Gillingham in only two days time, a game that the Shrimpers have to look to gain three points, and to achieve that they are going to have to score, something that looks very difficult at the moment with the players Tilly has left at his disposal.
