Johnson: Left by mutual consent

Johnson: Left by mutual consent

Don't think we're the first with that headline!

We did though highlight this match this morning, and defeat to Blue Square Premier club Luton Town was too much for the ambitious Northampton FC board, anf manager Gary Johnson has paid the ultimate cost as they search for another boss at Sixfields, again!

Johnson has only been in charge of Northampton since March 4th, but they have struggled in League Two this season and currently sit 20th in the table with just four wins from 17 matches and only three points outside the releagation zone.

Player-coach Dave Lee will take over as caretaker boss with chief scout Andy Holt acting as his assistant.

Chairman David Cardoza told www.ntfc.co.uk: "Gary has been a successful manager in the past and I am sure he will be again in the future. Unfortunately, things just haven't worked out for Gary here, and there comes a point when you have to accept that fact, take stock and make a decision and following talks between Gary and I over the weekend, it was decided that we part company. We wish Gary all the very best for the future. We part on good terms and our search for a new manager now begins."

Johnson has previously managed Latvia, Yeovil, Bristol City and Peterborough.

He himself added: "After discussions with the chairman, it was agreed that I part company with the club. I would like to thank the chairman for his support during my time here. I am sorry we did not reach the expectations we had set ourselves but I wish the club, it's players and supporters all the very best for the future."

Johnson has not had the best of luck in recent season after looking unstoppable for a while at Bristol City, another experienced boss out there looking for work, Luggy's been there!

As for Northampton, they haven't got a bad squad there and one day they must get it right, hopefully for them before they drop in to the Conference.

The Cobblers did get away from Roots Hall with a 2-2 draw in September after we went two up in the secoind half, www.southendunited-mad.co.uk with the return at the Sixfield stadium on Saturday, January 14th, 2012.
