"What do you mean Colchester, I said Carlisle!"

The coach company National Express is running an offer with the Mirror newspaper to get journeys throughout England, Wales and Scotland at the bargain cost of £1 each way. There are over 80 routes and trips including London to Bristol, Birmingham, Liverpool and, if you fancy the festival, Edinburgh.

As regular readers will know, National Express used to offer bargain £1 'funfare' tickets. The price of these went up to a fiver so this is a real chance to cut down on Walsall, via Birmingham, Carlisle (maybe!), Crewe, Yeovil, Scunthorpe, (I've got to work on that one!), and Bristol Rovers.

This offer's running until all the cheap tickets disappear, and the £1 fares are available for dates up until the end of September. Hurry up, for Birmingham on the Walsall day you have to get the 6am for the pounder! (There's still some fiver fares left, still good value, and a £1 coming back on the 19.00, so with a £2.90 day return to the ground that's £8.90 locally but £23.40 from Southend and up at 7, home at 23.00, the regular coaches should be cheaper. How independent do you want to be?)

Unless you live in London or own a season ticket this might not be the best option, but I doubt there will be any cheaper alternatives outside the supporters club transport. The coaches are modern with plenty of leg room so if you can afford the extra time these journeys take, London to Leeds for example is four hours, I'd look into it.

Go out and invest in the the Mirror, it's not that bad, however the quickest way would be to log onto the www.moneysavingexpert.com site and find the relevant link.

I would recommend to sign up for the weekly newsletter, for TLG and moneysavingexpert, it's well worth the effort.
