West to go back North: Ex-Blue to go back South?

The official site has released the following statement: "Southend United can confirm that reserve team coach Colin West has today left the club. West has taken up a first-team coaching role with a side in the north of England."

Director of sport at Hartlepool United Chris Turner has revealed to a local paper that he is on the verge of appointing a new number two.

46 year-old West has already been Turner's number two at Hartlepool and followed him to Sheffield Wednesday and Stockport.

Don't think it takes Hercule Periot to work that one out!

West did have the bad luck of the worst winter for 18 years leading to postponements and cancellations of reserve team fixtures meaning the ex Sunderland striker had only one match in charge, and that a youthful team losing 5-1 to Stevenage Borough.

The relative success of the now Watford No. 2 Dean Austin, a former Blue who has his roots in the South, might see a return to that formula with legends Paul Clark and Chrissy Powell mentioned in dispatches.

If we want to stick to full-backs Dean's partner in crime, here and at Spurs, Justin Edinburgh, is just caretaking at Rushden and Diamonds, might be a decent bet.

Tilly, speaking in the Echo, did not take the news well and believes West has serious trust issues! He's in no mood to make a quick appointment.

"I think Brushy and myself will just battle on for now. We have 11 weeks left until the end of the season and I think we will look at things again then. We need to get someone we can trust and I don't want to rush into making an appointment just for the sake of it."
