It will be a young Shrimpers reserve squad that takes the field at the Ipswich training ground this afternoon with a depleted first team squad playing only last night!

Two players who will get the chance to impress player/coach Graham Coughlan will the strikers Sam Higgins and Lee Boylan.

20-year-old Sam recently asked for his contract to be terminated at Blue Square South team Chelmsford City where he grabbed 16 goals in 28 appearance for the Clarets.

Lee is a veteran at 32 and spent many seasons at Canvey Island where he was mightly impressive, scoring 148 times over 178 games between 2001 and 2006!

Starting out as a West Ham trainee he has been applying his trade with League Two rivals Stevenage but was released in January having scored 17 goals in 58 appearances.

The Tractor Boys will be equally youthful, and will include 20-year-old Republic of Ireland Under-21 Shane O'Connor, who can play on the left as either a defender or winger, after recovering from an appendicitis problem which forced him to withdraw from the Irish squad for a friendly against Cyprus.

Other Tractor Boys that should see action are; Troy Brown, Luke Hyam, Conor Hourihane and Tom Eastman.

Southend United: Morris, Osifuwa, Prosser, Barcutt, Herd, Bouzid, James-Lewis, Woodyard, Della-Verde, Higgins, Boylan.

Subs: Chambers, Asante, Stephens, Abdellah, Nesbitt, Furlonge.
