Shrimpers reserves pull out of Combination League: 'It becomes a chore to take part'

Tilson: 'You have to fulfil fixtures for the sake of it'

We are now a redundant section!

Blues boss Steve Tilson has announced that there will be a Blues Two's in some shape or form during the 2010/11 season, we just don't know when or where!

Tilly told www.southendunited.co.uk: "The main reason for pulling out next season is that you have to fulfil fixtures just for the sake of it. There were occacions when we weren't fielding a reserve sidebut basically putting a youth team out for the sake of it. The youngsters don't get anuthing out of that as they then end up playing two games a week sometimes."

Well, yes Tills, but that probably has something to do with the fact we don't have much of a squad, and this confirms it won't be much bigger come August, however it will give Ricky Duncan more time with the under-18's, a Shrimper success story in these tough times.

And we will see a stiffs team popping up over the coming months, good thing to, it was a reserve fixture that saw Scott Spencer grab a double looking lively, and eventually bagged a contract.

We'll forget some of the others, Grant Kerr anyone!

Tilly continued: "By not being part of a structured league with fixtures that must be fulfilled we can arrange matches as and when we need them to look at trailists or to aid the recovery of our injured players. More and more teams are pulling out this season for the same reason because in the end it just becomes a chore to take part."

The Shrimpers seconds did finish bottom of the 2009/10 league, winning only a couple of 18 matches while losing 11, most very heavily!

Still, a shame for the unemployed, shift workers and students, who quite like their free afternoon trip to the Hall!

Oh the days of a packed stadium seeing Rodney Marsh return to play for the QPR reserve team. Maybe that's what Ron needs to do, wangle our way into a league with the odd Premiership side in!

Seeing Ledley King return from injury for Spurs reserves might bring in a few bob if we charged a quid.
