Southend United Reserves v Colchester United Reserves   (played on Tuesday, September 29th; kick-off 14.00)

Admission Free.

Shouldn't be a bad line-up, certainly not upfront, if you decide to and visit the Hall in what is some early Autumn sunshine at the moment.

Merrick James-Lewis will start in midfield after being recalled from Braitree where he was on loan. The youngster hasn't been used much and the club obviously want him to get some game time before probably sitting on the bench at Rotherham on Saturday, as we face a shortage in the middle of the park with Anthony Grant joining Ryan Hall in being suspended for the League Two clash.

There are also three trialists on show in centre-backs Maxine Blanchard & Richard Orlu, and striker Ortega Deniran, more on them in the link below.

It's always good to see the Farmers in the right part of Essex in any form of the game, but we all hope it's an improvement on the opening Combination game a couple of weeks ago that saw Southend fall to a 1-0 defeat to Luton in terrible conditions and a worse game, and that was a strong starting eleven!

Graham Coughlan as reserve team boss has given himself the day off playing, but expect to see Blues boss Paul Sturrock patrolling the touchline to give him a hand and take a close look at the players on trial.

Southend United: Bentley, Furlonge, Blanchard, Orlu, Prosser, Agyawa, James-Lewis, Kalala, Johnson, Crawford, Deniran.

Subs: Nije, Hyland, Stephens, Artemi, Hyams, Tatham.

ColU meanwhile will have a very strong line-up to face the Blues Two's.

Ben Williams, Tom Alfred, former loanee John White, Steven Gillespie, and old friend Karl Duguid, who has returned from a year with Plymouth Argyle.

Other than that lot there are a few kids to even the sides out a touch.

Colchester United (from): Williams, White, Folan, Alfred, Rose, Mafuta, Cranmer, Duguid, Sanderson, Wright, Olufemi, Gillespie, Gilfedder, Arnott, Ladapo.

Blimey, that's a pretty strong squad, we'll do well to get any sort of positive result.

However, Colchester United, Stevenage, Oxford United and Luton Town will be the only teams facing Southend United reserves in the Combination league this season as teams pull out for financial reasons.
