Scannell injured as Blues Two's draw with Chairboys

Oh dear. Blues winger Damien Scannell went off injured again as early as the 20th minute as Wycombe survived a missed penalty to draw 1-1 with the Shrimpers reserves this afternoon at the Hall.

There were a couple of early missed chances, lee sawyer being involved in one of them for the home side, before Southend took the lead just before the break with a route one special.

Keeper Ian Joyce's goal-kick found Kyle Asante in the box and he lobbed over the advancing Wycombe shot stopper Jamie Young.

The Chairboys then took the game to Southend early in the second period and were rewarded when Matt McLure headed the ball home after an acurate cross from the left.

Sawyer, who spent some time with Wycombe last season, was in the thick of it again with a lovely crossfield pass, ones that we should be seeing in the first team, but Asante couldn't control it and the chance was lost.

Then the young Shrimpers side had their chance to win the game when Dennis was pulled down in the box and a penalty given.

Up stepped Craig Calver whose shot was well held by Young after guessing correctly which way the striker was placing the ball.

Poor Craig even had another chance to break the deadlock in a one on one with Young in the last minute, but shot wide!

Southend United: Joyce, Dennis, Clayton, Whittikar, Osifuwa, Okai (Milner 83), Sawyer (Owinja 69), O'Keefe, Scannell (James-Lewis 20), Calver, Asante.
