Essex Senior Cup Fourth Round

Southend United 0 Grays Athletic 0 (Grays Athletic win 4-1 on penalties)

A fairly strong Shrimpers side were knocked out of the Essex Senior Cup Tuesday evening by Grays after a comprehensive 4-1 penalty shoot-out defeat.

Lee Sawyer was pulled out of tonights side having failed a late fitnrss test due to the former Chelsea youth picking up an injury in training Monday.

The hero of the night was Grays keeper Andy Hall who saved two of the first three of Southend's spot kicks, he also made several good saves throughout the game, while the Ryman League One North side smashed in the four they had to so progressing into the last eight.

Alex Woodyard slotted home our single effort.

Returning form injury for the Blues was shot stopper Glen Morris who would also been pleased to have kept a clean sheet while annoyed that he wasn't able to keep one of their penalties out.

Teddy Nesbitt did have a goal disallowed for offside just after the half hour but mostly it was a night for the shot stoppers who did well at both ends, sadly for the home side, at the end of the game one had done slightly better than the other.
