However, Alex Woodyard was very industrious in the Shrimpers midfield and started to show why Luggy promoted him into the first team squad for the Burton game earlier this season.
It only took eight minutes for the Tractor Boys to take the lead when Jack Ainsley grabbed the lead they took into half-time, and if they had not missed so many chances it could have been far worse.
As it was, only four minutes after the break Graham Coughlan's Shrimpers seconds were two down, Reggie Lambe this time, and Ainsley got his brace soon after on 55 minutes.
And then Ronan Murray got in on the act a minute past the hour to make it four, as time was played out to the conclusion and a scoreline that brought back sad memories of last season and the regular beatings handed out to Ricky Duncan's side, a couple by Ipswich back then!
Still, it was hard to put out a competitive eleven with a depleted first team squad the day after a League Two match which included two or three that would have seen action here.
