While Graham Coughlan had a calvalcade of senior players to choose from the Hatters named a youthful side, though not all without first team experence themselves, for Tuesday afternoon's Totesport.com Combination East Division clash against the Shrimpers seconds in the re-arranged fixture.

And to be honest, looking at the difference in the sides, the result was to be expected, however, good for Kyle's confidence, he's just returned from injury, and know harm for Luggy that his regular sub striker young Harry got on the scoresheet, especially as poor Matt didn't even get off the bench!

Kyle Asante started on the road to the match ball on 22 minutes when he turned in left-back Miguel Comminges cross from 8 yards.

However, this didn't start the procession many in the small crowd huddled together in the east stand may have felt.

In fact, Southend keeper Glenn Morris reminded Rhys Evans he's not given up returning to be the club's No. 1 shot stopper by turning away Christian Tavernier's long range effort.

This was followed up by Jordan Ayris shooting wide, and on the half-hour Godfrey Poku stinging the gloves of Morris.

At this stage it was the home side who were happy to hear the half-time whistle.

However, the difference in class was to show after the break and on 55 minutes Asante turned provider when his cross found Harry Crawford who did enough to beat Luton keeper Lewis Price.

Not long after Asante got back on the scoring trail with a well-struck drive from 12 yards out that beat Price at the near post.

Crawford again, a 20-yarder stopped by the now increasingly busy Price, who did well to keep out Mark Phillips effort from a Jamie Stevens free-kick.

Asante was not going to be denied his hat-trick though, and just before the end from another Stevens set-piece, a corner this time, his volley smashed off the inside of the crossbar into the net.
