Southend United 1 Lincoln City 0

With Blues boss Paul Sturrock deciding that Ryan Hall should replace Louie Soares on the left, he'll be very pleased that it was the Dulwich born winger that provided the cross for Barry Corr to head home the winner with only three minutes on the clock.

Sadly missed by a few who remained in the pub to finish off that one last pint!

The away team arrived without a manager when Chris Sutton quit the Imps in midweek for personal reasons and first team coach Scott Lindsey taking over as caretaker.

After the terrific start the game settled down with the Shrimpers having most of the possession and just about deserving their win, but it was close.

Former Blues forward Drew Broughton was his usual combatative self, with little to show for it, and was eventually substituted.

Josh O'Keefe did shoot over for City but Corr was constantly a menace in the air and soon forced another save from Imps keeper Joe Anyon with a strong header.

Michael Timlin was not on target with one of his free-kicks unlike last week, when for a change Anthony Grant saw someone else pick up a yellow card, Clark Keltie, when he was chopped down.

When Timlin himself was fouled later it was Hall who took the set piece but clobbered it right into the Lincoln wall.

City improved in the second period and striker Ben Hutchinson headed against a post from a corner by Albert Jarrett, who then forced Blues No.1 Glenn Morris to tip over the bar a well-taken free-kick.

Worse for the Lincolnshire side at the wrong end of the table was a missed heading opportunity by Hutchinson in a good position whose travelling supporters knew the game was up when Moses Swaibu's header was cleared off the line near the end.

Sturrock brought on all three of his subs in the second half, Corr must have picked up an injury when Nathaniel Jarvis came on for just before the break but did enough to make him S24's man of the match, or half if you like, while another in Harry Crawford shot over the bar from 20 yards out and looked more lively than the Cardiff loanee.

Even if his side saw less of the ball in the second 45 they did enough to keep Lincoln out while eating up the final minutes at the end.

The Shrimpers make sure they remained undefeated over the week, pick up seven points from nine, and though placed in midtable after ten games, find themselves only one point outside the top six.

Bring on Chesterfield away next Saturday, Luggy's men are on a roll!
