Southend United 0 Millwall 0

If Southend draw all 46 games we'd be relegated, so we better get at least one win in there somewhere!

The Shrimpers went into the game unchanged from the starting line-up against Wycombe last Tuesday.

The midfield once again held firm against strong opponents, some lovely passing movement causing Millwall to resort to dubious tactics at times to stop an early breakthrough.

After a good effort by Anthony Grant, the good Lord Lee Barnard struck a shot that Lions shot stopper David Forde somehow pushed over the bar, the first of some dodgy moments for the Millwall keeper over the game.

Not quite Wycombe, he didn't score for a start, but another powerful Jean-Francois Christophe header from a Simon Francis cross, this time direct from a free-kick, was well claimed by Forde.

Macca had a great chance when working his way into the penalty area in first half stoppage time but shot wide.

An old nemesis from his Doncaster days, striker Jason Price, who had been ineffective playing out wide, was substituted at half-time for Blues supporter Neil Harris as Lions boss Kenny Jackett realised his 4-3-3 formation was not working and changed to the home side's 4-4-2.

Harris nearly grabbed one as well, the cheeky bugger.

Revell came on for Freedman on in the 65th minute and immediatly, after a good pass from Christophe, hit a 20-yard shot that just missed the left hand post.

He also came close to heading in at full stretch, with Barnard loitering with intent, but the linesman's flag had already been raised.

However, it was the Lions, now looking more competitive going forward, who came closest to grabbing the points when Gary Alexandra hit the upright late in the second half.

This was followed up by Andy Frampton's header being saved by keeper Steve Mildenhall before Alexander's follow-up was kicked off the line by the Moose.

The final whistle was welcome for both sides who had given their all in an entertaining match and in the end the points shared was probably a fair result.
