Paterson's Marks Out Of Ten

Last updated : 24 October 2005 By Matt Donohue

GK |Darryl Flahavan | Mins on pitch: 90 | Goals Conceded: 1 | Rating: 8

The former Southampton trainee made numerous very good stops to deny Barnsley more than the one goal. An aspect of Daryl’s game, which has improved, has been his punching from crosses, and once again Flavs came and punched with success. He cannot really be faulted for the goal as it was just one of those things.

RB |Lewis Hunt| Mins on pitch: 90 | Goals: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 7

Back to the solidness, which we expect from Hunt at right back. Didn’t let anyone get in behind him and was positive going forward. The former Derby man, made a couple of crucial clearances at vital times in Barnsley attacks during the second half.

CB |Andy Edwards| Mins on pitch: 90 | Goals: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 7

Another solid performance from the experienced Eagle, no nonsense display from a no nonsense defender. Made blocks, tackles, headers and clearances when they were needed.

CB |Adam Barrett | Mins on pitch: 90 | Goals: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 7

A more comfortable performance from the former Bristol Rovers defender. Was possibly at fault for the Barnsley equaliser as he couldn’t get up and head clear, this was possibly due to the fact he was tussling with the forward. Apart from that though it was a more solid performance and long may they continue.

LB |Che Wilson| Mins on pitch: 90 | Goals: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 7

Slowly Wilson is becoming a left back, he generally did ok, although I think Tilson will bring in cover for him, in case he dips in form or gets injured/suspended. Made good tackles against the Barnsley Winger, and won headers from cross-field balls.

RM |J. Campbell Ryce| Mins on pitch: 72 | Goals: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 7

A promising full league debut for JCR, although he didn’t beat his man as many times as he would of liked. The full back did well and limited JCR’s changes of getting into dangerous positions. He should decent trickery, and good pace, although the final ball was sometimes lacking he looked as though he could certainly cause a lot of teams problems.

CM| Kevin Maher| Mins on pitch: 90 | Goals: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 5

Was not one of his best performances his passing and set pieces were again severely lacking in both quality and accuracy. It was a good job that Guttirdge had a good game to make up for Maher’s poor game. However I have know doubt that Maher will be back up to his high standards in the next game away at Bristol City.

CM| Luke Guttridge| Mins on pitch: 87 | Goals: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 7.5

Spent most of the afternoon trying to make up for Kevin’s Maher, inability to pass the ball. He tried hard and put in another tiresome performance. Somehow managed to avoid Barnsley's rough tactic, even taking a late tackle from behind on the edge of the box, which went unpunished by the dipstick Referee. A player, who really has caught the eye this year, deserved the standing ovation when he was substituted.

LM |James Lawson | Mins on pitch: 72 | Goals: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 6.5

Should have earned his side a penalty in the opening minutes as he went down after a blatant trip. Unfortunately, this was the first of the referee’s shocking decisions. And instead of awarding the penalty, the dipstick had the cheek to book Lawson for DIVING!! Ridiculous! This aside he drifted in and out of the game, but didn’t look comfortable on the wing.

CF |Shaun Goater| Mins on pitch: 90 | Goals: 1 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 6

Unfortunately, it didn’t happen for the Goat today. Although he took the penalty very well, he ran around like a bit of a headless chicken and didn’t have the same presence upfront as he has done in the past.

CF |Freddy Eastwood| Mins on pitch: 90 | Goals: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 8.5

MOM: Looked like the Freddy of old today; the one thing that was missing from his good performance was a goal. Showed great determination and willingness to run and chase. He showed some nice touches, and brought people into the game well. If Freddy can keep turning in these types of performances then he will be in the team week-in week-out.

SB1 |Wayne Gray| Mins on pitch: 12 | Goals: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 6

Didn’t get into the game, due to the lack of time he had on the field.

SB2 |Mark Gower | Mins on pitch: 12 | Goals: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 6.5

Still not match fit, needs to be gently brought back into the team, although he did show signs of promise.

SB3 |Jay Smith | Mins on pitch: 3 | Goals: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 6

Only had 4 minutes, didn’t get into the game.

Because he was so influencial in the game, i felt the need to do a report on the ref’s performance

L. Probert | Mins on pitch: 90 | Bookings: 0 | Bad decisions: Many | Rating: 1.5

And that mark is generous, he was absolutely RUBBISH, the worst refereeing performance I have seen anywhere at football. Made mistake, after mistake, after mistake, clueless for both teams. Both teams where denied goal scoring opportunities due to his inability to play advantage. Basically Rubbish.
