Old boys punish Pilgrims

So Luggy made the obvious swap with Liam Dickinson back from suspension to replace suspended Bilel Mohsni, while Neil harris was fit enough to sit on the bench, and the tall hitman duly grabbed another spot-kick while left-back Peter Gilbert headed home his first goal in eight years, oh, and they ended with ten men, when things are going against you!

The make this remotely interesting, let's forget the first half, we in our section of the West Stand!

Then again, i do have a report to write, so.........

Dickinson headed a Ryan Hall free-kick wide, Argyle skipper Carl Fletcher, he who was to see red later on, tried his luck from long range, Blair Sturrock shot over the bar from 18 yards, and Plymouth midfielder Ladjie Soukouna found Shrimpers keeper Glenn Morris with a half-volley 25 yards.

Anything else? Yes, Jamie Griffiths found the south bank from around the same distance, but still the opening 45 mnutes ended without a shot on target with the Devon boys marginally the better side, there didn't seem to be any energy from Southend.

So after what we expect was a Sturrock wake-up call a kick from the left by Hall saw Plymouth shot stopper Jake Cole take the ball off the feet of the soon to be ex-United joint top scorer Mark Phillips.

However, all still remained quiet on the Roots Hall front and on 54 minutes Neil Harris replaced the son of Luggy up front.

Loanee Michael Timlin did try a 20-yard volley which went wide right, while five minutes after the last substitution another ex-Pilgrim in Ryan Leonard replaced a poor Kane Ferdinand.

This led to Timlin move more centrally and his run in to the box was rewarded with a spot-kick on 64 minutes when he was fouled by Durrell Berry and another inconsistant referee in Michael Naylor here got itb right and gave the penalty.

Up stepped Liam Dickinson to find the left hand corner for his fourth strike of the season though Cole made a brave effort to keep it out.

This was soon followed by all the troubles that the Plymouth squad have suffered this season to head, including deferring their wages once again, with Fletcher shown a straight red card for deciding that Timlin needed to be spoken to by trying to remove his head from his neck after a bit of handbags involving several players.

So it now seemed a second would eventually come in good time for me to get my early train, and after Hall shot wide from 18 yards with 15 minutes, another one of his accurate corners fond Dickinson whose header looked destined for the back of the old onion bag before Cole stretched wide, and made the save of the game.

At last it came though, and it had to be Hall to assist, as the resulting corner corner was sent in from the right and it found the head of Peter Gilbert for that long awaited goal.

So, successive home victories, three points, into the play-off zone, and, well, not much else, it will much harder next week up north in Sheffield and Rotherham United, we will have to play a lot better than this, and I'm sure Luggy will make sure we do.
