Referee: Kevin Wright (Cambridgeshire FA) 6 out of 10 – Northampton are a very physical side and unfortunately use their arms almost as much as their feet. Mr. Wright began to clamp down on the visitors in the second half but unfortunately still allowed them to get away with far too much. |

AND ANOTHER THING…
**The last time Southend won four successive home League matches was in the First Division in the 1994/5 campaign. Then Blues defeated Oldham Athletic (1-0, Sept 3), Bristol City (2-1, Sept 17), Bolton Wanderers (2-1, Sept 24) and Derby County (1-0, Oct 16).
**Even more remarkable about the run is that only once (against Kidderminster Harriers) have United kept a clean sheet. The other games were against Boston United (2-1), Swansea City (4-2) and Northampton Town (2-1).
**Seventh place represents the highest League position (after more than five games of a season) since 12th October 2002, when a 1-0 home victory over York City put the Seasiders fifth.
**This is the first win against the Cobblers since 17th January 1990, when David Crown and Jason Cook sealed a 2-1 Leyland Daf Cup First Round win at Roots Hall. It is the first League triumph over Town since Dave Martin and Roy McDonough scored in a Boxing Day 1988 2-1 win.
**Darryl Flahavan saved his second penalty of the season - clawing out Martin Smith's effort followed on from a save against Gary Jones of Rochdale. Sadly on that occasion the rebound was converted. The last penalty missed against Blues was by Colchester United in the LDV Vans Trophy, the last missed at Roots Hall by Lee McEvilly.
