Marks Out of Ten: SUFC 1 V 3 Barnsley

Flahaven - 6. As with the rest of the defence after the first goal went in the nerves were there for all to see while the corner disease struck again. However I would personally like to thank Darryl for the outstanding contribution he's made this season where without him we would have been relegated some time ago.

Francis - 6. Gave his all but looked error prone when Barnsley attacked down the left, not much seen of his attacking qualities until it was too late.

Clarke - 7. A couple of dodgy moments but defended manfully and tried to play football throughout the game linking well with the midfield. A future captain.

Barrett - 6. I believe it was Adam who gave the Barnsley forward far too much time to cut in and score the first, apologies Adam if wrong, and maybe his lack of full match fitness caught up with him after Preston but not the usual dominating performance. Looked far better when moved upfront in the second half which Tilly had to do given the woeful lack of forwards on the subs bench.

Hammell - 6. A similar game to Francis and unlucky with his free kick for the second match running.

Campbell-Ryce - 6. Solid match for JCR who tried all his tricks that don't seem to be coming off on such a regular basis now as they did during his post Christmas golden period. (Or he's been sussed.) The West Brom brace seems a long long time ago!

McCormack - 7. Worked as hard as he always does and tried hard to get things going with Captain Kev but was never helped by the two forwards in front of him. Thanks Alan, I salute your attitude and skill, join Darryl in the 'without you it would have been over ages ago' club.

Maher - 7. Along with Alan gave his usual 100% but the little flicks and forward passes were never going to come off with Harry and Foran up front. I felt your pain Kev, I really did! The player I sympathise with most if the worst happens.

Gower - 6. Mark, Mark. I seem to have been writing the same thing about the former Barnet man for three years! As ever in and out of the game but kept at it and stealed a goal. First time we've lost when Gower has scored I'm told!

Harrold - 5. Proved at Preston that beyond the running around like a headless chicken has little else to offer at this level. Gave the Barnsley central two a far easier day out in the sunshine than they would have expected but worth preserving with especially if at a lower level.

Foran - 5. The real disappointment after his promising debut, Burnley saviour goal and the dosh we gave Motherwell. Gave him the benefit of the doubt after Preston but all of us that felt he could do a good job in the middle have, for the moment, been proved wrong. What the game did prove was that life after Fred is going to be a touch more difficult that some screaming for Freddy's exit may have believed.

Bradbury (sub for Foran 64mts.) - 6. The silence when Bradders replaced Foran said it all but Tilly had little choice given his rather sad bench, Sodje and Barrett upfront anybody? As it happens didn't do that badly and gave Mac and Kev something to aim at, he at least held the ball up for more than 30 seconds! Nice header against the bar which ultimately led to our consolation.
