Marks Out of Ten - Southend and Scunthorpe

Last updated : 15 March 2006 By Chris Daniels

Darryl Flahavan 8: Continued to prove he is back to his best again. The No.1 shop stopper in this league but his discovery of the defensive punch has countered the criticism of his lack of inches.

Duncan Jupp 7: Another good performance from the tall full back keeping Lewis Hunt on the subs bench. Did everything asked of him.

Che Wilson 8:What no goal, not even a shot, only an 8 then, defended quite well though.

EFE SODJE 9
: MOM: Did we get the best Sodje brother after all? Magnificent central defensive performance from Efe, even more commanding than last week, adding a forward header that Lee Bradbury will thank him for permantly.

Adam Barrett 8: No less effective, matching Efe kick for kick, tackle for tackle. These two, if they stay fit and suspension free, can take us to the Championship. (Along with that Freddy blokes goals.)

Kevin Maher 8: That goal seems to have given him a boost, excellent game, dominating and finding his colleagues with ease. No doubt helped by his partner Luke’s return to his best.

Luke Guttridge 8: Colchester away really is turning in to the game that got us back to the level we had to get back to if we were going to be serious promotion contenders instead of doing a, well, Colchester or, dare I say, a Swansea. Luke continues to prove why he could be Tilly’s best ever signing, a free anyone!!! Keep away from that tenth booking Luke, will be tough though as his ferocious tackling is what this hard working midfielder is all about.

Lee Bradbury 8: Where are those doubters now, will they ever learn? Great all round game, scoring his first goal for the club when reacting to Efe’s header while everyone else stood around like statues. Mark Bentley will need Lee to bust a hamstring to get back in the side on this form.

Mark Gower 7: See last week! Another frustrating performance from Mark when you know he is one of those players who can make things happen. There is a 8 or 9 game around the corner I’m sure.

Shaun Goater 8: Again, see last week. “A goal that could have graced the premiership”, I quote from the 5 Live commentator at the game who was more than impressed with all the boys, but Goater in particular. (Even if the received pass was from offside position, what was the linesman watching!) Looks to be very up for it and wants to go out in style. A coaching position should be offered forthwith.

Freddy Eastwood 8: Until he went off injured Freddy had proved once again why if there is a star in this “no big time Charlie” team that Tilly and Brush have created, then he is the one. The game started as if Scunny were going to give us big problems, and they are not a poor side going forward, then 10 minutes in, up steps Freddy, a shot, a goal, three points. Easy!

SUBS:

Wayne Gray 7 on for Freddy Eastwood
Jay Smith 6 on for Luke Guttridge
Lewis Hunt 6 on for Efe Sodje
