Both strikers Matt Paterson and Scott Spencer did not travel to Hereford for today's game, on their way out of Roots Hall?

Seems strange, but Harry Crawford has returned from Dover to start on the bench joining loanee Cardiff striker Nathaniel Jarvis in front of a low attendance of only 2,107.

Other than those talking points Blues boss Paul Sturrock decided to stick with the side that lost to bottom-of-the-table Morecambe last weekend, and was sutibly rewarded as the away side triumphed over the Bulls for the eighth consequtive time in a row!

Only three minutes on the clock when James McQuilkin scored direct from a free-kick from outside the penalty area into the top left hand corner, possibly keeper Glenn Morris should have made a better effort to save as he could only push the ball onto the underside of the bar where it bounced off into the back of the net.

However, Southend were pushing forward in greater numbers and it was no surprise when Barry Corr grabbed the equaliser on 27 minutes, heading in a Blair Sturrock cross from close range.

Just before half-time both Michael Timlin and Anthony Grant go into the referee's book with yellow cards, and we believe that's Granty's fifth so no trip to the Gills.

Bulls French striker Mathieu Manset also saw yellow when many in the crowd felt a red was in order as he certainly seemed to make contact with Grant with his head!

Into the second half and on 52 minutes a long range shot by Michael Timlin hits the back of the net, top left hand corner again after a free-kick routine with Josh Simpson. The Swindon loanee really has a very fine left foot!

Peter Gilbert; a third Shrimpers yellow card.

But it was all down to EEB's favourite player Blair Sturrock making the result certain when on 67 minutes he shot from inside the box finding the bottom left hand corner after his initial effort was blocked by both Bulls defender Richard Rose and their keeper Adam Bartlett.

An assist and a goal for son of Luggy, and a 7 mark; what do we know!

Paul Sturrock's men were dominating possession now with more attempts on goal than the home side; they well deserved their lead, and even had the ball in the net for a possible fourth, however the linesman had his flag raised for offside ruling out another Barry Corr effort.

Sturrock did his boy off on 76 minutes to hand Nathaniel Jarvis his debut, while eight minutes later Louie Soares replaces Ryan Hall, and with his final substitution on 86 minutes Luggy decides to give Luke Prosser some confidence as he comes on for big Barry Corr.

Final whistle goes after nearly five minutes of stoppage time, great comeback by the Blues after last week's defeat and the Essex boys will enter Tuesday night's game away to Gillingham with a lot more confidence and a much more healthier league position!
