Donohue's Marks Out Of Ten

Last updated : 11 September 2006 By Matt Donohue

GK Darryl Flahavan | Minutes on pitch: 90 | Goals Conceded: 0 | Rating: 6.5

Flavs was not at his best in this game but how can you argue as he gets a clean sheet to his name. He was saved by the cross bar on a couple of occasions and also looked a little dodgy on a couple of crosses. However it was a clean sheet for Flahavan and for a goalkeeper you cannot ask for anymore.

RB Simon Francis | Minutes on pitch: 90 | Goals: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 6

Not the greatest performance from Francis although he done well in attack linking well with Jamal Campbell Ryce. Francis does not always look comfortable on the ball but then again he was part of a defence that kept a clean sheet.

CB Peter Clarke | Minutes on pitch: 90 | Goals: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 6.5

Clarke started his first home game alongside Adam Barrett and the pair look to be forming a decent partnership at the back. Clarke's one weakness was his tendency to play long ball rather than looking for the shorter passes.

CB Adam Barrett | Minutes on pitch: 90 | Goals: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 7

Dived in front of everything and gave his all for the cause as he always does. Barrett ran forward and back did not stop until the game had finished. The local lad deserves a special mention for all this work that often goes unnoticed.

LB Steven Hammell | Minutes on pitch: 90 | Goals: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 5.5

Quite what Hammell has over Che Wilson is now beyond me. Most of his play is average, most notably when a member of the opposition is running at him and his distribution. The only extra asset he brings to the side is his set pieces which so far have proved fruitless.

RM Jamal Campbell-Ryce|Minutes on pitch: 90|Gls: 0|Assists: 0 |Rating:7.5

MOTM: JCR ran his heart out and really cannot give any more to the cause. He was quick and nippy and scares defenders with his pace. His distribution still needs a lot of work, make no excuses but this is a big improvement on the old JCR.

CM Kevin Maher | Minutes on pitch: 90 | Goals: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 7.5

Maher turned in a solid performance and a leadership style performance in the early part of the game. Captain Kev created space and time for other players and managed to put his foot on the ball and release for other players.

CM Luke Guttridge | Minutes on pitch: 90 | Goals: 0 |Assists: 0 | Rating: 5

Unfortunately Gutts looks like a lost sheep in the midfield at the moment as he does not appear to know if he is going backwards or forwards. A disappointment for a player who looked so good last season against inferior opposition. Hopefully Guttridge can find more time on the ball by improving his positioning.

LM Mark Gower | Minutes on pitch: 90 | Goals: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 7.5

Gower was given the sponsors man of the match and receives plaudits from TLG as well. Ran the show on the left hand side and always looked dangerous when he had the ball. Maybe he should look at shooting on his right foot more often.

CF Freddy Eastwood | Minutes on pitch: 83 | Gls: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 5

Hmmm. Not the Eastwood we know! Not overly sharp or physical but then again I don't want to be overly critical. I will wait a few more games before really commenting on poor Eastwood displays.

CF Billy Paynter | Minutes on pitch: 83 | Goals: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 6

Looking better and looking sharper but I feel Paynter has a lot more to offer. At the moment we have the Championship version of Drewe Broughton but I feel that Billy Paynter is almost ready to explode on the scene.

CF Gary Hooper | Minutes on pitch: 7 | Goals: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 6

Quick and sharp but 7 minutes not enough to judge someone on. I feel that at 19 Hooper has a lot to offer.

CF Matt Harrold | Minutes on pitch: 7 | Goals: 0 | Assists: 0 | Rating: 6

Seven minutes worth of debut nowhere near enough to judge the ginger haired striker. Maybe see more of him this Tuesday night against Norwich.
